Future Healthcare Professionals Are Preparing for Disasters: Comprehensive AFAD-Signed Training at SDU

SDU ISHMYO students participated in CBRN, suspicious package management, and tent setup trainings organized in cooperation with the Isparta AFAD Directorate, while also competing in various contests. The event, which was carried out in a drill-like atmosphere and featured colorful moments, enabled students to gain vital experience in crisis management.

Süleyman Demirel University Isparta Vocational School of Health Services and Isparta Provincial Directorate of Disaster and Emergency Management organized a highly productive event aimed at equipping future healthcare professionals with the necessary skills to respond effectively to possible disasters and emergencies. Coordinated by Lecturer Hidayet Yıldız from the Department of Medical Services and Techniques, the event was held on the school campus and attracted significant student participation and interest.

From Theory to Practice: CBRN and Suspicious Package Management

The trainings delivered by expert personnel from Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency covered some of today’s most critical emergency scenarios. During the sessions, students first gained awareness of CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear) threats, while also receiving detailed technical information on the management of suspicious mail and packages, which is of vital importance during potential crisis situations.

They Raced Against Time

The practical phase of the event was carried out in an atmosphere resembling a real-life emergency drill. Within the scope of the CBRN scenarios, activities such as wearing protective suits during hazardous situations and setting up standard-compliant emergency tents for post-disaster shelter needs turned into exciting competitions among the students.

In the competition, where eight teams competed fiercely, the importance of every second was emphasized once again. Students demonstrated their practical skills throughout the challenges, and those who ranked among the top performers were presented with awards by personnel from Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency.

It Will Be Life-Saving in Our Professional Careers

Students, who had the opportunity to both learn and enjoy themselves during the event, emphasized the significance of the training for their professional development. They stated that such hands-on activities, which go beyond theoretical instruction and allow them to gain direct field experience, not only contribute to the university’s vision but also play a life-saving role in helping them manage crisis situations they may encounter as future healthcare professionals.

At the end of the event, the program coordinator, Lecturer Hidayet Yıldız, emphasized that the contributions of Bilal Öztürk to education and student development were invaluable. He then presented certificates of appreciation to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency personnel who shared their knowledge and experience with the students through great dedication and commitment.
