From Theory to Practice: Medical Laboratory Techniques Students Examine Slides on Site
First-year students of the Medical Laboratory Techniques Program at Isparta Vocational School of Health Services visited the laboratories of Süleyman Demirel University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Pathology in order to reinforce the microscopy knowledge they had learned in theory.
As part of the hands-on training, the students had the opportunity to closely get to know and individually use different types of microscopes available in the pathology laboratory. The types of microscopes, magnification systems, and imaging techniques explained in the lectures were revisited in practice on prepared slides in the pathology laboratory.
During the activity, the students took turns at the microscopes to examine various tissue and cell samples, and they practiced fundamental laboratory skills on site, such as focusing, adjusting magnification, setting the light, and evaluating image quality. In this way, it was aimed both to increase the students’ command of the microscope and to strengthen their motivation towards medical laboratory practices.
