CBRN Awareness Event Held at SDU SHMYO

Süleyman Demirel University Isparta Vocational School of Health Services (SHMYO), Department of Medical Services and Techniques, organized an important awareness event for first —and second-year students of the Emergency and First Aid Program. Held on May 13, 2025, the event aimed to raise students' awareness about Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) threats.
As part of the event, experienced paramedic Arzu TELLİ, serving at the 12th Emergency Health Services Station affiliated with the Antalya Provincial Health Directorate, participated as a guest speaker. Arzu TELLİ provided detailed information on the types of CBRN threats, necessary precautions to be taken at the scene, and the critical role of healthcare professionals in such incidents. She also shared real-life field experiences to enhance the students’ understanding of the subject.
Participants gained comprehensive knowledge on intervention methods in potential CBRN situations, using personal protective equipment, triage practices, and establishing safe zones. The interactive Q&A session allowed students to ask specific questions and deepen their understanding.
Lecturer Fatma Gündüz Güç emphasized the significance of the event by stating, "It is vital for our students to go beyond theoretical knowledge and be prepared for the types of threats they may encounter in the field."
Lecturer Ensar Güney, who organized the event, stated, "Such training helps students develop the ability to remain calm and act effectively during crisis situations."
The students who attended expressed that the knowledge they gained on CBRN awareness would significantly contribute to their professional development. At the end of the event, Arzu TELLİ was presented with a certificate of appreciation, and it was announced that similar events covering different topics would continue in the future.
The administration of Süleyman Demirel University SHMYO announced that such initiatives would be sustained to equip health science students with not only academic knowledge but also practical, field-oriented competencies.
